NHKで沖縄ブームの立役者となった「ちゅらさん」というドラマがあったが、その中で沖縄と東京を対比して描くエピソードがあった。沖縄から出てきたヒロインの友人が、東京は冷たいところだ、嫌なところだ、沖縄に帰りたいと愚痴る。それに対して東京人の菅野美穂のキャラが激怒していう

「私は、東京生まれの東京育ちなの。私も思うよ。東京って嫌なところがあるって。でもね。東京を嫌な街にしたのは、あんたのような人達よ。東京に暮らしていながら東京を好きになろうとしない。愛そうとしない。どうせいつかは出ていくんだ。それまで我慢してるだけだ。そんな人達ばかりの街が、いい街になるわけがない

…東京に対して失礼よ。そんなに沖縄がいいのなら帰ればいい。帰って東京の悪口言ってればいいでしょ。あそこは、人の住む町じゃないとか何とか言ってりゃいい。でも私は、そうは思わない。ここは人が暮らしてる町だよ」自分はこの脚本を書いた岡田氏は、健全な認識を持っていたと思う。田舎者よ。そういう自分は東京で何をした？　東京のためになにをした？　東京のせいなのか？　すべて自分じゃないのか？

共同体を愛していない人間が共同体の一員になるのは不幸なことだ。共同体のためにもならないし、個人のためにもならない。東京だけに限らない。市町村だろうと都道府県だろうと。国だってそうだろう
